Sound form

Sound form is a project that creates musical images through graphic design techniques. These musical images aim to evoke sound through vision—allowing the viewer to hear what they see. We hope you will experience the book firsthand and discover what kind of sound each image brings to mind.

Test pressing

The first volume of sound form was created entirely through experimentation. Various shapes, colors, and scales were separated into four layers and printed using risograph, exploring what kinds of visual effects might emerge—and what sounds they might evoke. The work resisted clear verbal definition. Each viewer may discover their own interpretation.

Production

The cover is made from heavyweight semi-transparent tracing paper printed with black and silver ink. The inside pages are printed with four-color risograph on textured paper. The book explores the limits of risograph printing through generous use of solid color areas and overprinting. Subtle variations in ink texture slight misregistration smudging and bleed make each copy unique.
